Note: ARPA Canada does not support or oppose any political parties or candidates. The story below is a quality example of a Reformed Christian using his talents to testify to the truth.

Longtime ARPA member Mike Schouten recently took to the airwaves of Vancouver's most popular radio station to talk about faith and politics and explain why he is running as a candidate for the Christian Heritage Party. Appearing on Wednesday's edition of CKNW's Bill Good Show, Mike had about 50 minutes, one-on-one with the host, boldly speaking up about the important role of Christianity in Canada's politics.

Schouten was given this opportunity because he has previously called in to the show to talk about MP's expenses. That conversation, including Schouten's reference to his involvement in the CHP, was apparently worthy of an entire segment on its own. Schouten wrote the station to ask them to consider a discussion about the role of a Christian party and they obliged just two days before he was live on the air.

Schouten has long been active with the Surrey/Cloverdale ARPA chapter but in recent years he has given his time to obtaining the candadacy of the CHP in his riding. His political journey has changed course over time, with the result of him now running against the MP who he once campaigned for. As he explained to Bill Good, his motivation is simply to serve his fellow citizens.

His interview is a good example of demonstrating both grace and truth. Regardless of what one may think of the party that Schouten is standing up in defence of, Schouten provides a stellar example of a hard-working family man who shows the initiative to apply his faith to the life where God has placed him. It is a breath of fresh air to hear a Christian political perspective delivered so candidly and kindly.
