Allow assisted suicide, expert on law, health urges Canada

OTTAWA-Assisted suicide should be decriminalized in Canada to allow competent and informed people to make decisions about how they die, and because current laws are inconsistent and ineffective, an expert in health law and policy told an Ottawa audience Tuesday night. “My position is grounded in two core ethical values: autonomy and equality,” said Jocelyn Downie, Canada Research Chair in health law and policy and professor of law and medicine at Dalhousie University.
