Over the weekend, the Manitoba Teachers’ Society passed a resolution opposing policies that allow parents to pull their children from classes on moral or religious grounds. Parents in Manitoba can currently opt their children out of classes but the Society will now petition the provincial government and school board to remove this capability.
CBC quotes the president of the Society, Paul Olson, as supporting the policy on the basis that: “there are things that we feel that all students need to know in terms of creating an inclusive school for everybody.” Gear up, Manitoba parents, the fight for parental rights is coming your way!
