Justice is an excellent virtue
Justicia est virtus excellens et Altissimo complacens – Justice is an excellent virtue and pleasing to the most high.
In our time, reading a maxim isn’t as simple as it once was. We first have to define our terms since we live in a chaotic world of different standards. Whose definition of justice exactly is pleasing to the most high? The Supreme Court of Canada?
Deuteronomy 25:1 states, “When people have a dispute, they are to take it to court and the judges will decide the case, acquitting the innocent and condemning the guilty.” It is a command of God that men to discriminate against the evildoer for the sake of the innocent and for his people in general so that freedom and justice can prevail.
Isaiah 5:20 expands on this where it says, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.” The inability to discern what is right or wrong without God’s standard of justice will make men powerless when it comes time to bring fair and right judgment and therefore will leave the evildoer unpunished, giving him more liberty to multiply his wrong actions.
