The Association for Reformed Political Action (ARPA) Canada is a grassroots Christian political advocacy organization.

The mission of ARPA Canada is to educate, equip, and encourage Reformed Christians to political action, and to bring a biblical perspective to our civil authorities.

We are looking for a Controller to join our team.

Summary: The Controller is responsible for administering all financial aspects of the organization with the direction and oversight of the Executive Director. 

Location: Successful applicants will be expected to work out of the Ottawa, ON or Abbotsford, BC office, with a preference for BC.

Employment Details:

  • Hours: minimum 25-30 hours per week (some flexibility required) to full time
  • Compensation:
    • Wage is negotiable, depending on qualifications and experience
    • Health care benefits and RRSP provided for full-time employees

Reports To: Executive Director

Responsibilities:

  • General day-to-day financial and accounting services for the organization
  • Management of external organizations as they conduct ARPA Canada’s annual audits
  • Maintenance of necessary corporation documents and submissions
  • Timely management of expenses, including payment of invoices via bank draft, cheque, or e-transfer, and credit card accounts
  • Payroll administration, including benefits packages and RRSP management
  • Preparing financial reports for board review on a quarterly basis or as requested
  • Donor management, including receiving donations and donor profile management

Requirements for Applicant:

  • Experience and knowledge in payroll administration, benefits packages, financial reporting, and discerning expenses
  • Experience in bank reconciliation, expense report facilitation and compilation
  • Heartfelt agreement with the mission, vision, tone, and core principles of ARPA Canada
  • Willingness to abide by ARPA Canada staff policies including those pertaining to expenses and staff conduct
  • Active membership in a confessional Reformed church (a confessional Reformed church is one that faithfully upholds Scripture as summarized in the Three Forms of Unity or the Westminster Standards)
  • Self-motivated and disciplined work ethic
  • Strong computer and internet research skills, including Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
  • Flexible with quickly changing priorities and duties and able to respond quickly to time-sensitive issues
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff, as well as grassroots supporters
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Sensitivity to confidential matters
  • Flexible schedule, including putting in extra hours during busy seasons (balanced with less hours during slower seasons)
  • Friendly and servant-hearted demeanor
  • Ability to work well with a diverse team in multiple locations
  • Six-month trial period and a minimum 2-year expected commitment

Assets

  • Experience in bookkeeping or finance management
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Diploma in Bookkeeping
  • Experience with SAGE software
  • Experience with donor management
  • Experience with CRM software and systems
