National Post, Oct 17 2011: Raised in a traditional Greek home, Andromache Karakatsanis couldn’t speak English until Kindergarten and wasn’t allowed to date until university – promptly marrying her husband when the couple was in second year at Toronto’s Osgoode Hall Law School.
The 55-year-old multilingual daughter of immigrants, Justice Karakatsanis’ ascension to the Supreme Court of Canada comes less than two years after she joined the Ontario Court of Appeal, and her slim dossier of appellate court judgments make her a wild card as Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s choice for one of two vacancies on the country’s top court.
