‘Mother Nature’ headline offensive

Hamilton Spectator, Oct 13 2011: Although I enjoyed the record-breaking temperatures this past Thanksgiving weekend, I gave thanks to God for the weather rather than Mother Nature.

I can’t imagine this paper ever printing a headline like “God gives beautiful weather to southern Ontario” because that would be considered “offensive.” Just for the record, I am offended by the reference to Mother Nature, a common personification of the Earth with pagan origins. There is nothing neutral or politically correct about Mother Nature.
