End-of-life discussion

Toronto Star, Nov 17 2011: It’s unfortunate that the members of the Royal Society of Canada downplay the slippery slope objections in their report on end-of-life issues. Whenever policy changes are advanced, we do well to look at the unintended consequences that may occur.

The effects on the elderly and vulnerable in our society would be immense. Although not intentional, should laws that prohibit assisted suicide be done away with, it would put them in a position to justify their own existence; and this at a time in their lives when they are physically and emotionally at their weakest.

Let’s ensure that we give proper consideration before changing the current policy.
