07 Mar 2017 Grassroots Motivation

ARPA Canada Grassroots Manager, Colin Postma ARPA’s Manager of Grassroots Engagement was on the road last week. Colin Postma made a number of stops in BC and Alberta, trying to find new ways to get folks engaged. He says they tried a different approach this time, breaking the participants down into small discussion groups for brainstorming sessions. “After that, the group(s) would put their ideas together and cycle them around the room.” He says the goal was to “get people inside the ARPA mentality, coming up with new ideas for how...

14 Nov 2016 Ontario School Club Hosts Flag Display

This submission was written by student member Tess Laman. A Voice for the Voiceless On Saturday October 29, along Highway 5, the Rehoboth ARPA School Club rallied together to be a voice for thousands who don’t have one. Many student members spent their morning sticking 10,000 pink and blue coloured flags into the ground. Each flag represents 10 babies aborted each year in Canada. They rose awareness by holding their pro-life banner high both literally and figuratively. They were encouraged by the many honks of support they received over the course of...

The stories are beginning to come in from MP offices and pregnancy care centres and they want to say: thank you! Letter from MP Deb Schulte We received a letter from MP Deb Schulte (King Township-Vaughan) that she received the baby booties and would be sharing them with an agency that cares for mothers and their infant children (see photo). MP Harold Albrecht also tweeted this photo to us, as he gave the gift of baby booties to the K-W Pregnancy Resource Centre. Another MP wrote to us to say "We received the package today and will...

21 Jun 2016 Baby booties – a grassroots effort

With gratitude to our grassroots supporters from coast to coast, we can say without a doubt, the Booties for Babies campaign was an overwhelming success! In December 2015 we sent out a request for 1,000 pairs of hand-crafted baby booties. The purpose of this initiative was two-fold: the booties would be a statistical representation of the annual death-toll of abortion, but would also serve as a public demonstration that the pro-life community is ready and willing to serve and help moms who choose life. This initiative quickly snowballed into a monumental effort by people of all ages, from across the country, who united for one cause: to demonstrate positive, pro-life activism in a creative way. A facebook event page was started to communicate information to the crafters and for individuals to share ideas with each other. Quickly, women and men began posting pictures of baby booties they had crafted, or ones they had picked up from elderly family members and friends. People offered advice, shared patterns and organized get-togethers where experienced crafters would teach or simply for a group to gather together for a time of socializing and crafting.

01 Apr 2016 Students crochet booties for ARPA Canada

Students at Covenant Christian School in London, Ontario have been busy participating in the Booties for Babies campaign. Over the winter months a group of girls in grades 5-8, under the leadership of Mrs. Lynda Schouten, have gathered over the lunch hour to crochet baby booties. The nine girls, some of whom had never crocheted before, learned how to make beautiful baby booties under the direction of Mrs. Schouten and a few of the girls’ moms and omas. The girls, who were looking for a warmer alternative than going outside...

20 Feb 2015 Local chapter inspires other groups

Recently a couple members from the Barrhead/Neerlandia ARPA chapter and school chapter made a visit to Grande Prairie to talk with people there who were interested in learning more about ARPA Canada. The majority of those in attendance were young people, what a blessing it is to see the younger generation getting excited about political issues! Thank you to Jacqueline and Rae-Lynn for explaining the mission of ARPA Canada, the motivation they have as individuals to get involved and some of the activities that the Barrhead/Neerlandia group has undertaken. The...

28 Oct 2014 Pro-Life Flag Display in Grande Prairie

The Barrhead/Neerlandia ARPA chapter, the Neerlandia ARPA School chapter and many volunteers hosted the pro-life flag display in Grande Prairie, Alberta on Saturday, October 25. The organizer shared some of her thoughts as well as experiences and photos with us. "What a great day." We got to meet and talk with a number of people. One gentleman was pro-choice and we had a great conversation, he was happy that we could chat in a civil way, and said that was not something he was not use to. Another person we spoke with has gone through four abortions and was feeling very guilty about it. She was in tears and when she left I gave her a huge hug and told her not to forget that there is help if she needs it. A man we spoke with wanted his wife to have an abortion, 21 years ago. His wife did not have an abortion, they had a boy and now 21 years later the father and husband is a born again Christian and is glad his wife did not listen to him. He says that sometimes he thinks about what life could have been and I mentioned that he has since found Christ and that when ever he thinks like this he needs to remember that Christ died and forgave our sins.  He left in happy spirits when we were finished. I also chatted with a lady that hosts the Christian radio station and would like to have a follow-up letter so she can remind her listeners that there are people out there that are beginning to stand for our beliefs. There were also many pro-lifers, and we were able to feed homeless people in the area. The many honks and waves from the vehicles driving by was overwhelming. I was hit by it at the end of the day. I shed some tears and was thankful to God that he was with us at all times. God has been good as he blessed us through this day, in the situations we encountered. Praise God from whom all blessings flow. What a testimony and a great reminder of how we can engage on important political issues, that are also sensitive, in a respectful and encouraging way. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped make this event happen!
