We are so excited to announce a national open invite for you to attend Parliamentary Pro-Life Week! This annual event, organized by a group of pro-life MPs, will be held on Parliament Hill in Ottawa from April 8-11, 2019. Normally these MPs invite lobby groups to join them for a few days of meetings. This year they are expanding this event by encouraging us to invite our supporters to come along with us to Ottawa! As many of you know, we’ve been advancing an ambitious plan to introduce abortion legislation in...

11 Mar 2019 March for Life 2019

Marches for Life are being held in our nation’s capital and provincial capitals across the country on Thursday, May 9th. Before marching, we would like to start the day in meditation and prayer together asking God to end the evil that is abortion in Canada. Join us at one of the Reformed pro-life prayer services being hosted in a city near you. After the prayer service, head to the provincial Legislature (Toronto, Edmonton, Victoria) or Parliament Hill (Ottawa) to join with thousands more in speaking up for the most vulnerable...

05 Mar 2019 Even in a world with chemical abortion, Canada still needs an abortion law

by Mark Penninga In “Why abortion pills have changed the future of pro-life activism in Canada” Marie-Claire Bissonnette challenges the pro-life movement to take stock of changes in how abortions are being done. I heartily thank Marie-Claire for asking hard questions about current pro-life strategies. We all benefit from respectful and honest analysis, and the lives of the pre-born depend on our effectiveness. Chemical abortions (via abortion drugs) are making abortion seem much less messy and unpalatable, Marie-Claire says. So, she argues, prolife strategies that rely on graphic images of aborted children...

19 Feb 2019 Why ARPA Canada is honoured to assist with organizing a March for Life in Toronto

by Mark Penninga From ARPA Canada’s first day in 2007, our strategy has been to devote as much time and energy as possible to working proactively in achieving what is possible. We are an association for ACTION. And, by God’s grace alone, these past 12 years have shown us that far more is possible than we even imagined. From our first day, we have tried our best to work alongside others who share our convictions, and that remains a priority moving forward. Our mission is not to build up our organization, but...

31 Jan 2019 A timeline of ARPA Canada’s engagement on the euthanasia issue

Euthanasia has been a top priority issue for ARPA Canada over the past few years. 2015: ARPA intervened in Carter v. Canada, the landmark Supreme Court case which struck down the prohibition on assisted suicide. 2015: ARPA produced a paper showing the government that their legislative options included affirming a total ban of euthanasia. 2015: ARPA  engaged in direct lobbying on Bill C-14, which amended the Criminal Code to legalize physician-assisted suicide.  The Hill Times recorded ARPA Canada as having the top number of Parliamentary lobby meetings on this...

28 Jan 2019 CCA report leaves Parliament with many warnings about expanding euthanasia

In December 2018, the Council of Canadian Academies completed a massive report on assisted suicide, and its possible expansion in Canada. Requested by the Ministers of Justice and Health and tabled in Parliament, this report was written “in order to inform a national dialogue among the Canadian public, and between the public and decision makers.” It’s helpful to define terms used in this article. The CCA reports makes consistent reference to “MAID”, which stands for “Medical Assistance in Dying”. We strongly object to this euphemistic term, since it intentionally...

14 Nov 2018 Pregnancy Care Centre Fundraiser

Six weeks ago the Covenant Canadian Reformed School’s ARPA Club started planning the Pregnancy Care Centre Fundraiser. We had heard that the new Pregnancy Care Centre in our community was receiving more women seeking help than that they had first expected. As a result they were running out of supplies. What better way to show our Christian and Pro-life identity then to take action within our school. The fundraiser lasted one month (three weeks). We split the 12 grades in our school into four groups. K-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12....

17 Oct 2018 Physicians at SickKids discuss euthanasia for children

by Daniel Zekveld In 2015, when the Supreme Court struck down the law against euthanasia, it dealt another blow to the dignity of human life. Canadian law now glorifies death as an autonomous choice. As if the list of people eligible to receive death at the hands of doctors was not long enough, Canadians are already discussing extending euthanasia to minors. As if the list of people eligible to receive death at the hands of doctors was not long enough, Canadians are already discussing extending euthanasia to minors. In an essay entitled, “Medical...

20 Sep 2018 Debate on expanding euthanasia continues, ARPA releases new policy report

This fall, Parliament will examine the issue of expanding euthanasia to “mature minors” and to persons with mental illness. Since 2016 (Bill C-14), Canada has permitted anyone who is at least 18, has a grievous and irremediable medical condition, and whose death is reasonably foreseeable, to receive “medical aid in dying” (MAiD). To put it in stark terms, the law now permits medical professionals to kill their adult patients, as long as the patient consents and has the requisite medical conditions. In Spring 2015, ARPA released its first Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia...

07 Sep 2018 We Need a Law Flag Display

We Need a Law flag display The flag display went well, with around 30 students volunteering to help. We were set up at a park on a busy street corner in downtown Hamilton, and didn't have a lot of foot traffic, but there were a considerable number of cars going by. Many of the drivers and passengers honked or gave us thumbs-up -- even one city bus driver, who went by several times on his regular route, honked each time he went by in support of our cause. It was amazing...
