Postal workers banned from uttering traditional blessing

Canadian Press, January 23, 2009: A tradition of more than 25 years for some mail carriers as they left the office to begin their routes in this eastern Ontario city was to say “Merci Seigneur pour la belle journee.” But the phrase, which translates to “Thank you Lord for the beautiful day,” has been banned at the Cornwall office by Canada Post management following a human rights complaint.
