Parliament to be Prorogued: Bills delayed
ARPA Note: The decision to prorogue Parliament means that government bills have to be re-instated by Parliament in the new session if they are to continue. Private members bills, including C-384 (euthanasia) and C-268 (human trafficking), which have not yet received Royal Assent, will be delayed but will automatically continue in the new session.
Globe and Mail, Dec 30/09: Prime Minister Stephen Harper will prorogue Parliament Wednesday for a two-month break. The House of Commons and the Senate will come back in March, after the Vancouver Olympics, for a Speech from the Throne and a budget. The move will have the effect of stalling all bills currently in Parliament, including crime bills that the government had said were being delayed by the opposition.
