BC Court of Appeal
Summary:
ARPA intervened at the B.C. Court of Appeal, which reviewed a lower court’s order that forbade a father from speaking with his daughter about her gender transition. ARPA argued that singling out the father’s thoughts, beliefs, and opinions for censorship violates the father’s s. 2(b) rights and the child’s right to parental guidance. Although the Court of Appeal required the father to use his child’s masculine name and pronouns when speaking to the child, it also affirmed the father’s freedom to share his views on treatment options with his child. ARPA’s intervention helped to achieve a significant scaling down of the censorship order against the father.
