A Plea from Sam Golubchuk’s Family

A A

March 14, 2008 | ARPA Canada

My name is Miriam Geller, and I never thought that I would be writing such a
letter.

I am the daughter of SAM GOLUBCHUK, an elderly disabled World War II
veteran living in Winnipeg, Manitoba (in Canada).

Last fall SAM, who has been living in a long-term care facility, came down
with pneumonia and had to be moved to a hospital. Thank God, the pneumonia
was cured. Unfortunately, due to his weakened condition, SAM has been unable
to return to his home. He is currently receiving basic care at the hospital
which includes being given food and water and assistance in breathing
through the use of a ventilator.

SAM isn’t on any medication and he is in no pain. He’s just old and weak.
In November the hospital, without our permission, attempted to withdraw this
basic care, letting our father die. We obtained an emergency Court Order to
stop them from doing so, which they tried – and failed – to have reversed.
Now the government is forcing us to return to Court again as it fights, at
taxpayers’ expense, to have the Order overturned.

That’s right – the government is fighting for the right to kill our father.
If it succeeds, it will have established the right to kill anyone it deems
unworthy of living.

Let me stress that SAM is not in a “vegetative” state, nor is he suffering
from a terminal illness of any kind. The government wants to end his life
because he’s old, he’s weak and he’s disabled and it doesn’t want to spend
money on his care – and it’s using taxpayers’ money to fund its legal
crusade!

SAM is a veteran of World War Two. He joined the army at the age of 16 and
served in places like England, Holland and Belgium for six years. He risked
his life fighting murderers who started by killing their disabled, then
killed anyone they didn’t like and didn’t stop killing till their government
was crushed.

In short, SAM took a stand.

We too have decided to take a stand – but we aren’t doing it just for him.
We’re also doing it for ourselves, our children and everyone we care about.

If we let the government kill SAM, it will be able to kill anyone it thinks
is past their “expiry date”. Once they start who will stop them?

WE NEED YOUR HELP NOW!

What we need MOST DESPERATELY RIGHT NOW is money to pay our legal bills and
the fees for the next legal battle to KEEP SAM ALIVE! Unlike the government,
we can’t tax anyone to pay these bills. Instead we’re depending on your
generosity.

Our father has always looked after himself and his family. He was a
hardworking man all his life – a burden to no-one. As a young man he was
prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice for freedom and human dignity, and
as a businessman he gave back to his community.

He has earned the right to be treated with dignity in the twilight of his
life. WE WANT SAM’S LEGACY TO BE ONE OF LIFE – NOT DEATH. THE GOVERNMENT
WANTS TO USE HIM TO GET YOUR PERMISSION TO KILL.

Help us protect SAM’S legacy of life and sacrifice for others by
contributing today.
